Nuts are an important part of a healthy plant-based study and prior studies have shown their benefits when regularly consumed. Study published in American Journal of Nephrology showed that nut consumption is associated with significantly lower prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and overall lower all-cause mortality in general.

For the study, investigators analyzed data from 6,072 individuals over the age of 20 from the NHANES 2003-2006 study where they reported their dietary intake including nuts. Results were matched with death data from the CDC. They found that consuming nuts six times a week compared to one or none, lead to a significantly prevalence of developing CKD. In addition to lowering CKD risks, this high consumption also lowered risk of death from cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality.

This study adds to the already wealth of data promoting the healthy benefits of eating nuts.
