If there is a study to prove why commercial gun ban should be enacted in the United States, it’s a study published in journal Trauma Surgery & Acute Care Open.

Trauma is the number leading cause of death for people under 46 years old in the US. While car accident had been the number one cause of trauma in the past 10 years, research using data from the annual National Vital Statistics Reports show that in 2017, death caused by firearm as surpassed car accidents with years of potential life lost to be 1.44 million due to firearms and 1.37 million due car accidents with the trend continuing through 2018.

Potential years of life lost were calculated by subtraction age of death from the standard age of 80. The researchers also stratified the data according to age, gender, injury intent, and geographical region in the US (North, South, Midwest, and West).

They found that between the years of 2009 and 2018, the annual percentage change in death caused by firearms increased by 0.72% while car accidents well by 0.07%.

When looking at the intent of the firearm use, death inflicted by law enforcement remains relatively level with minimal change. Therefore, the police is not killing more people compared to the Average Joe despite constantly being targeted for “police violence.”

However, suicide by firearm increased over the 10-year period from 18,735 in 2009 to 24,432 in 2018, an equivalent of potential years of life lost from 571,720 to 741,869.

Additionally, homicide increased from 11,493 in 2009 to 13,958 in 2018, an equivalent of potential years of life lost increase from 554,260 to 633,656 years.

Men made up of the majority of the deaths cause by firearms at a whopping 85%.

The Southern United States had the most potential years of life lost at 5.7 million while the Northeast had the fewest of 35,789.

More people dying from firearms because of legally allowing people to have guns is clear. Having guns do not make the world a safer place.

Not sure why anyone thinks gun ownership is a masculine trait or any American thing because clearly it creates more harm and if anything, make men lazier and more stupid because they don’t learn how to truly problem solve both in their mental health and general relationship issues with their community. Bottom line, real men don’t use guns. They put in the work for their mental health, learn some real self defense, and build positive relationships with their community to make it better. So instead of going out to buy a gun to solve your problems, you should just be a man and grow a pair…
